Gonoe Sushi

Gonoe Sushi was a visit I made, twice in total now, on Queen’s Quay. If you’re looking for authentic ambiance as well as great taste, Gonoe is the perfect spot for you. It’s also pleasant that it’s right by the Harbourfront, so once you finish eating some delicious sushi, you can take a walk along the Harbour and enjoy yourself.

My first visit to Gonoe was to have dinner with my partner – we were looking for a quick eat before he had to go back home and fly out to Europe early the next morning. We were welcomed warmly by the staff and lead to a table that gave a great Japanese feel/ambiance.

Not only were the staff and restaurant fully dressed and decorated Japanese style, the plates and china were very authentic and were of good quality – we didn’t dine on typical plastic plates, but pristine glass plates with clean mats. Things like these really reiterate the fact that every detail counts for something, and it definitely added to my ratings for Gonoe Sushi that night.

We ended up ordering one of their special rolls – in the photos you see the Black Dragon Roll which had crispy shrimp tempura, crab meat, avocado, cucumber and black tobiko wrapped in unagi.

These rolls were really tasty – I felt that the portions were reasonable for the price – we got this large set of 10 pieces of delicious sushi rolls for $12.95 – which is a decent/average price for this type of cuisine and dish. I thought it was well worth it – but if you’re trying to have a good budget and dine enough for two people, I highly recommend the Small Tray for two, which is advertised as a popular choice. I had this on my second visit when I took my mom – with this combination you get appetizers (this includes miso soup, a noodle dish and salad) along with the small boat/tray of a variety of delicious sushi and sashimi. It was perfect for 2 persons. Unfortunately, no pictures could be obtained for foodie utopia for that second excursion 😦
